Smooth and flawless skin is often associated with youth, health, and energy. Aging, genetics, and the elements can be cruel when it comes to your look, creating dull skin, fine lines, and age spots that may make you look older than you feel.
Thanks to advancements in aesthetic technology, you can restore your smooth and flawless skin with treatments like intense-pulsed light (IPL) rejuvenation.
At French Med Spa & ºCryothérapie in St. Charles, Illinois, we’re known for providing the trendiest, most sought-after aesthetic treatments, and we use many skin rejuvenating tools to restore a more youthful look. Our team, including our esteemed medical director and founder, Karen French, DC, wants you to know how IPL rejuvenation works so you can get back your skin’s youthful glow.
IPL goes by many names, including photofacial, fotofacial, and photo rejuvenation. While it’s often referred to as a laser treatment, IPL isn’t a laser but a type of light therapy. The advanced aesthetic tool uses quick pulses of light at varying wavelengths, like a photo flash, to reverse the signs of aging and renew your skin’s radiance.
The scattered light energy produced by the IPL tool has the ability to penetrate through to the second layer of your skin, known as the dermis. The energy created by the pulses of light heats and destroys the pigmented cells, while at the same time stimulating the production of collagen, which is the protein that provides your skin with its youthful strength and resilience.
The gentle, scattered energy created by IPL doesn’t damage the surface layer of your skin, yet it accelerates cell turnover to completely rejuvenate your look.
The rejuvenating powers of IPL go beyond simply improving dull, lackluster skin. The photofacial addresses many of the beauty concerns associated with aging. We use IPL as a treatment for:
The laser is also gentle enough to treat your entire face, as well as your neck, décolletage, and hands. Through the power of light energy and your body’s own ability to heal itself, the IPL photofacial smooths your complexion, evens out your skin tone, and brightens your look.
Because everyone’s beauty needs and goals are different, our aesthetic team at French Med Spa & ºCryothérapie creates individualized treatment plans for IPL rejuvenation, so no treatment is like another. However, the treatments have some common elements.
Before we start your light therapy treatment, we first clean your skin and apply a cooling gel to ease any discomfort. Then, we place the handheld IPL device over the treatment area and activate the light energy. You may feel a stinging sensation during treatment, but discomfort is minimal and well-tolerated by most of our patients.
Your skin may be red like a sunburn for a few hours following your IPL skin rejuvenation treatment, but there’s no need for downtime — and you can go right back to your usual day after your session. You should notice an improvement in the look of your skin soon after treatment. But to get the best possible results, we recommend a series of treatments at one-month intervals.
For an even more dramatic look, we may recommend you combine your IPL rejuvenation with our Venus Viva™, which uses advanced nonfractional radiofrequency energy to penetrate the deep layers of your skin. The energy produced by our Venus Viva treatment triggers a cascade of healing that completely remodels your skin and gives you a visibly smoother, more even-toned look.
